action

Commercial attaché Dr. Otto Dernburg came to Germany from South America for business negotiations. His eye falls on the attractive millionaire Carlotta Ramirez. But first he visits his younger brother Ralf, who lives in an attic apartment with his friend Charley. The two are expecting the attractive Swedes Ulla and Britta, but are afraid of their strict uncle Niels. Charley's unknown aunt, who also wanted to come, can be excused at short notice. Britta and Ulla don't want to be alone with the two men.

For the sake of his brother and to save the evening, Dr. Dernburg as Charley's aunt. The situation becomes more and more complicated when Charley's father and Uncle Niels appear. However, the wrong aunt manages to appease both of them. Finally the real aunt appears, who is none other than Carlotta Ramirez. At first she pretends to be very piqued, because the wrong aunt is wearing the very dress that Dernburg's butler had stolen shortly before. She embarrasses the wrong aunt, but doesn't let her get exposed. Only when the women have left does Dr. Dernburg. The next day, Carlotta shows herself in the dress that Dernburg wore the night before. She shows him that she saw through him, but that she doesn't hold it against him.

additional

A highlight of the film is Rühmann's “Amazonas Mambo”, when he sings about her homeland Brazil in a fisted voice in his aunt's garb :

"In my home country Brazil every man is bursting with temperament,
That's why I'm drawn to Brazil, where passion burns like fire.
This is the land of adventure, you can be really happy there.
You sing and dance around the campfire into the jungle night. "
When the pumas jump through the forest and the parrots scream,
Monkeys swing from branch to branch, I ride into the jungle.
The natives greet me devotedly and kiss the hem of my skirt,
Amigos! This is still a life, like a magical dream.

The film was first shown on German television on August 16, 1974 at 8.15 p.m. on ARD .

Reviews

“The comedian Rühmann has not yet found a successor in the younger generation of films. He doesn't want to be a comedian, he is. ", Die Zeit said in relation to the film. The lexicon of international films ruled that the "indestructible British stage farce [...] in this transfer from Oxford at the turn of the century to Berlin in the 50s" loses the basis of its comedy "and gets an embarrassing aftertaste due to the emphasis on the transvestite topic".
