Charlotte Kerner

Charlotte Kerner (born November 12, 1950 in Speyer ) is a German writer and journalist .

Life

Charlotte Kerner spent her childhood and youth in Speyer. After studying economics and sociology in Mannheim , she first worked on an urban sociology research project; this was followed by one-year study visits to Canada and the People's Republic of China . Her experiences there prompted her in 1980 to write her first book on the position of women and girls in China. As a journalist she worked a. a. for GEO-Wissen , Die Zeit and Emma , as a press officer she worked for Jugend forscht .

In her novels, she continues to deal with current scientific topics, particularly biomedicine, genetic engineering and anthropology. In these books, as well as in the biographies, she primarily explores women's lives psychologically, with natural scientists often the focus.

In 1987 she received the German Youth Literature Prize ( non-fiction category ) for the first time for her biography Lise, a nuclear physicist. The life story of Lise Meitner and then 13 years later, in 2000, in the youth book category, the state award for the science fiction Blueprint - Blueprint, which was filmed in 2004 with Franka Potente in the leading role. The novel, which was published in thirteen languages, accompanied Kerner on many reading tours - also at the invitation of the Gothe Institute -u .a. to Denmark, France and Israel, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan as well as the USA and Israel.

In 2012 the author spent three months in the People's Republic of China and taught Chinese German students at various universities as a short-term lecturer at the DAAD .

Today Charlotte Kerner lives with her family in the Hanseatic city of Lübeck and at times also in Pollensa, on the Balearic island of Mallorca.
