Chen Qi ( Chinese 陳 玘 / 陈 玘 , Pinyin Chén Qǐ ; born April 15, 1984 in Nantong ) is a former Chinese table tennis player . He won three world titles and gold doubles at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens . Chen Qi was part of the Chinese squad for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing .
Career
Chen Qi was named to the Chinese national team in October 2002. At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens , he won the gold medal in doubles. He was able to secure a gold medal at four world championships: at the 2006 world championship in Bremen with the team, at the 2007 world championship in Zagreb in doubles, at the 2008 world championships in Guangzhou again with the team and again in doubles at the 2009 world championships in Yokohama . At the 2005 World Championships in Shanghai , Chen Qi won the bronze medal in doubles. In the individual he reached fifth place there. In 2005 and 2007 he took part in the Asian Championships and achieved first place in a team, second place in doubles and fifth place in mixed. In 2007, Chen Qi was also fifth in the individual.
Chen Qi was a member of the Chinese team for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing , but only played the role of reservist.
In 2010 he was inducted into the ITTF Hall of Fame . He married in 2013. At the end of 2013, he was eliminated from the Chinese national team.
