Chickenfoot III -

Chickenfoot III is published 23 September 2011 the second studio album of American hard rock - supergroup Chickenfoot .

production

After the success of their self-titled debut album (No. 4 in the USA , 17 in Germany, 23 in Great Britain) and the release of the live DVD Get Your Buzz on , it was clear to the group members that they would record another album. The obligations of the drummer, Chad Smith , with the Red Hot Chili Peppers turned out to be problematic for the appointment , but the guitarist Joe Satriani and singer Sammy Hagar still worked on the first demos for the new album.

At the end of January 2011, the band began recording the album in Hagar's "The Foot Locker" studio (after a technical upgrade he had renamed his "Red Rocker" studio). In addition to the band, Mike Fraser ( AC / DC , Metallica , Franz Ferdinand , Aerosmith ), who had taken on the task of sound engineer for the recording of the first album , acted as producer . The first demos had already been created on the tour in 2009, further tracks were written as demos in 2010. A special feature is the song Come Closer, for which Sammy Hagar wrote the lyrics without having any music to go with it. He asked Joe Satriani to come up with something, who then wrote the music for the text.

As a guest musician appeared on the album Mike Keneally ( piano and organ at Different Devil and Alright Alright ) and Monique Creber, Joani Bye and Linda Kidder ( background vocals in Come Closer ) with. The first single on the album was the title Big Foot on August 2, 2011 .

Chickenfoot III was released in Europe on September 23, 2011 as a simple CD , a Deluxe Edition CD and an LP . The release in the USA did not take place until September 27, 2011. The cover of the first edition of the album contained numerous 3D elements , which is why anaglyph glasses are included with the sound carriers .

Furnishing

The deluxe edition came in a box that contained the album with an additional DVD and the group's first album, " Chickenfoot " (also with an additional DVD). This box also included four 3D postcards , the anaglyph glasses, and a white T-shirt with the band logo printed on them. Using the QR codes printed on the postcards, it was possible to call up short video clips that were also in 3D.

The LP version appeared in a gatefold cover that also contained the anaglyph glasses. Instead of the postcards, a four-page booklet in LP size was enclosed, in which QR codes were also printed; the inner shell showed three more 3D images. The record was a clear blue.

dedication

"Chickenfoot III" is dedicated to John S. Carter. Carter was A - & - R Manager for Capitol Records , where he the careers of Steve Miller and Bob Seger accompanied had Tina Turner brought to Capitol Records and some songs from their comeback album "Private Dancer" produced . He was a long-time companion of Sammy Hagar's career and later his manager , he also worked as a songwriter . John S. Carter died in Palm Springs on May 10, 2011 at the age of 65 .

reception

Joe Bosso from Musicradar said of Chickenfoot III that the CD was an "excellent, thrilling rock 'n' roll record that just had to be experienced from start to finish" . It is "tough, but still full of intricate textures, played by top musicians." In his opinion, this is "the kind of record that bands young and old dream of having recorded."

Jörg Staude wrote for Rocks that the album was "the new S-Class" . He certifies Joe Satriani that Chickenfoot would be "any rock band" without him . With its class, the group is "but extraordinary." The album delivers a "terrific game with dynamics" and has "more substance and depth than the debut, which was in comparison too well thought out" . For him, Chickenfoot III is the "previous hard rock album of the year."
