Chris Kontos (drummer)

Chris Kontos (born May 29, 1970 ) is an American drummer of Cypriot descent. He is a member of the band Attitude Adjustment and previously played for Machine Head, among others . He also supported the bands Exodus and Testament several times live .

Career

Kontos was one of the founding members of the crossover / thrash metal band Attitude Adjustment in 1985 and released two studio albums with them before the band broke up in 1992. In 1991 he played briefly with Death Angel . In 1992 he can be heard on the album The Blacking Factory by the band Grinch and became a member of the band Machine Head, where he replaced Tony Constanza. In 1993 Kontos helped the band Exodus on their South American tour. Because of his work at Machine Head, he turned down an offer to join Exodus.

In 1994 Machine Head released their debut album Burn My Eyes . Chris Kontos' health problems led to his expulsion. Kontos suffered from a blockage of the salivary glands and had to be hospitalized several times during the tour . In later years his illness resulted in him being in a coma for several days .

Kontos then joined the band Testament, with whom he played several concerts and recorded the song Rapid Fire for a Judas Priest tribute sampler. He left the band at his own request. Also in 1995, together with the band Slayer , Kontos recorded the song Witching Hour for the home video Live Intrusion . In the following years Kontos played briefly in the bands Verbal Abuse , Konkhra , The Servants and Anti-Trust , before Attitude Adjustment reformed in 2007.

In March 2019, Machine Head announced that Kontos and founding member Logan Mader will be part of the 2019/2020 anniversary world tour for the 25th anniversary of the album Burn My Eyes . Kontos also recorded a new version of the album "live" in the studio together with Mader, Robb Flynn and Jared MacEachern .

From 2014 to early 2019, Chris Kontos was a professional BMX rider. When the offer for the Burn My Eyes anniversary tour came, he gave up this career in favor of Machine Head.
