Chris Lyness (born March 2, 1980 in Baie-D'Urfé , Québec ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player . Lyness was a right-shooter and acted as a defender.
Career
Lyness began his career in the 1997/98 season with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in the Québec Major Junior Hockey League . In the 1998 NHL Entry Draft that followed, Lyness was selected in the ninth round in a total of 229th place by the Tampa Bay Lightning . In the league he continued to play for the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles , Québec Remparts , Val d'Or Foreurs and Montréal Rocket before moving to the East Coast Hockey League for the Florida Everblades in 2001 .
From the Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey Lyness came to Europe in 2005 to the French first division club HC Briançon , for which he became the defender with the highest points. After the season he moved to the Italian Serie A2 for HC Valpellice before the Odense Bulldogs from the AL-Bank Ligaen signed him for the 2007/08 season . In the 2008/09 season Lyness played for the Eispiraten Crimmitschau in the 2nd Bundesliga. After his contract with the Saxons was not renewed, he signed a contract with HC Meran Junior from the second-class Italian A2 series. After the 2009/10 season, however, his contract was not extended, so the Canadian ended his active career.
