life and career

Childhood, youth and college football

Chris Ronér was born on March 4, 1980 as the third child of Lars and Rebecca Ronér (nee Knight) in the Californian metropolis of San Francisco. In addition to his two older siblings Brooke S. (* 1975) and Erik L. (1976-2015), as well as his sister Logan Rebecca, who was born in 1985, he also grew up in the Bay Area and completed large sections of his schooling here. From 1995 to 1998 he attended Terra Linda High School in the Terra Linda settlement belonging to San Rafael . In high school, the four-time team and league MVP was not only active in soccer, but also was Letterman in baseball. In 1997 and 1998 he was a football player on the Region IV ODP team . After his high school graduation, the then in could Novato living Roner, who, like his older brother is also an avid skier, between the University of California, Berkeley , the University of California, Los Angeles and Santa Clara University decide where he decided on the former, for which he was also used in the sports department from the same year.

Under Mark Mallon , Ronér made his debut for the California Golden Bears , for which he played 19 championship games in his freshman year, of which he was only six from the start on the lawn, completed and scored four goals, as well as another for his Teammates prepared. A few months after the end of the game year, he was named Cal Rookie of the Year after leading the statistics in all areas before the other rookies. For the men's soccer team, which has been in existence since 1906 and has never won a national championship, but two years earlier for the first time finished the conference first, he entered the Pacific-12 Conference . In his sophomore year he was able to improve his performance and started in all 20 league games from the start, with three goals and four assists. At the end of the game year he was next to Derrick Dyslin and Kendall Simmonds for the first time elected to the All- MPSF first team .

In the course of time he developed into one of the best offensive players on his team at this time, and in the following year 2000 he performed even better. He was used again in all 20 championship games from the start, scored four goals and gave three assists, with his hits and his 35 shots on the opposing goal behind Kendall Simmonds with six goals and 43 shots on goal, the second best player of the season. Furthermore, he was behind Austin Ripmaster (4 assists) together with Ramiro Arredondo with three assists the second best assists of the team. This year he only just missed the election for Cal Soccer Athlete of the Year , which Simmonds also won. After showing good performance this season under the former US international Kevin Grimes , who took over the post of head coach this year and currently (as of October 2015) still holds it, he was used as an attacking midfielder and striker Ronér was elected to the All-MPSF-First-Team for the second time at the end of the season . He also found his way into the All-Pac-10-First-Team for the first time this year .

In his senior year 2001, the team captain also worked for the soccer team and, with the team, which had only three seniors with Chris Ronér, Austin Ripmaster and Leo Krupnik , returned to an NCAA Division I Men's Soccer after more than five years Championship . In the 2001 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship , however, the team was eliminated from the current tournament after just one encounter against the Santa Clara Broncos . Shortly before that, Chris Ronér and Josh Saunders, who later also became a professional, were elected to the All-Pac-10-First-Team after completing regular playing time . The again mainly used as midfielder Ronér was used in 18 games of the regular season , during which he scored three goals and two assists; he was also used in a game of the 2001 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship .

Temporary professional player

In the MLS SuperDraft 2002 , Chris Ronér was drafted in the third round as the 33rd pick for the reigning MLS champion San José Earthquakes , while his teammate Leo Krupnik with the then New York-New Jersey MetroStars as the 68th pick in the sixth round Professional club found. He played his first game shortly afterwards in a friendly against his old college team. In Major League Soccer, the midfielder, who has been struggling with ankle problems since his college days, found it difficult to join the team and could hardly prevail against his more experienced teammates. So he sat on the bench for the first time on May 18, 2002 in a 2-0 away defeat against Columbus Crew and only came on the lawn in the last few minutes. After only a few minutes of play a week later against Chicago Fire , head coach Frank Yallop took him completely out of the official match squad, so that he was not used again until the end of June in a 4-0 away win over the Colorado Rapids .

After he was allowed to sit on the bench again a month later and it was then only enough for a few minutes of play, Ronér, in order to gain at least some game practice, was together with Scott Bower for a game against the Cincinnati Riverhawks at the then US American second division (later USL First Division ) awarded Portland Timbers . Because of the performance, both were taken on loan on August 9, 2002 for three more league games. Up to this point, the offensive player had only played 29 minutes in four completed first division games and had three victorious league appearances for the Timbers within a few days, before he returned to the Portland Timbers for two more games at the beginning of September 2002 has been. Here he was used in one encounter and then ended his loan period and returned to his regular club, where he immediately afterwards in an international friendly match against Club America from the Mexican Primera División after presentation by test player Shaun Tsakiris his first Scored hit for the Quakes. At the end of the season it was enough for a second place in the conference with six points behind Los Angeles Galaxy , as well as the second place in the award of the MLS Supporters' Shields . He was also used in a game of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup 2002 that year.

In the following game year 2003 , Chris Ronér should gradually develop into the regular player of the San José Earthquakes, where he should bring it to inserts in a total of 23 league games, including 21 games from the start. Here he got two hits and just as many assists. With the team he was able to win the Western Conference in the end , defeated the opponents in the subsequent MLS Cup play-offs and the final game and became champion of the highest North American football league after a 4-2 win over Chicago Fire. Ronér is considered to be one of the trailblazers for success at the end of the game year. After the team had lost the Conference semi-final first leg to Galaxy 2-0, and were already 2-0 down in the second leg after 13 minutes, the team fought their way into overtime, mainly with Ronér's header, to make it 4-2 a few seconds before the end of the game. With a total score of 4: 4, Rodrigo Faria finally prevailed with a golden goal in the 96th minute and helped the team into the subsequent final, in which an own goal from Ronérs almost brought the game to tip. This semifinal encounter then went down in the history of the Major League Soccer as the “best game” or as the “best catch-up”. Chris Ronér had other appearances this year in an encounter of the CONCACAF Champions' Cup 2003 , as well as in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup 2003 , during which he was used for over ten minutes.

After the game year, the injured Ronér underwent a routine arthroscopic operation on his right ankle in the winter of 2003, but it was found that the cartilage damage was so massive that it would have been too risky to continue playing as a professional football player, as he also had problems with the left ankle. Although he was still in the official squad of the San José Earthquakes in the game year 2004 , he played no further game and ended his active career as a footballer at an early age at the age of 23.

Life after an active football career

After his early career end of his sports career Roner worked from 2004 and 2005 as creative director and graphic designer for the Roar Advertising Corporation , where he brands and companies such as Lucky Brand Jeans , Cartier , Kiehl's , Visa Inc. , Sony Entertainment and the Major League Soccer supervised . Among other things, he was responsible for the print media, but also for television, the Internet and new media and also worked as a freelancer . After a long rehabilitation, he tried to gain a foothold in professional football again under Dominic Kinnear in the preparation for the season 2005 , but this failed because of the pain that followed. At the same time, alongside his sister Brooke, he was one of the co-founders of the Legend of the Motorcycle International Concours d'Elegance in Half Moon Bay , California, which took place between 2006 and 2008 . In 2008 he tried again as a soccer player and took part in the preparation for Major League Soccer 2008 under Frank Yallop , but had to speak out against a career as a sportsman again due to the pain. Today, the former professional soccer player lives with his wife Maria-Elena and their daughter Paris in the small town of Emeryville on the east coast of the Bay of San Francisco, and from here, together with his wife, founded their own sports shoe company called Heroyk in 2011 .
