Chris Seitz (born March 12, 1987 in San Luis Obispo , California ) is an American football player .
Youth and college
Seitz attended San Luis Obispo High School and was named California's Best High School Soccer of the Year in 2004. After high school, he went to the University of Maryland . In his freshman year of college, he won the NCAA National Championship with the team . His conceding rate was 0.89 goals per game. In his second he was able to improve his conceding rate to 0.77.
Club career
He was selected by Real Salt Lake as the first goalkeeper in fourth place during the 2007 MLS SuperDrafts . In his first professional season he came to three league appearances, but was most of the time behind Nick Rimando only substitute goalkeeper. In 2009 he was loaned to the Cleveland City Stars , where he played a game. He was then loaned to the Portland Timbers for two games .
For the 2010 season he moved to the Philadelphia Union expansion team . There he was the team's regular goalkeeper. In the course of the season he repeatedly made mistakes, so that he was replaced by the previous goalkeeper Brad Knighton. At the end of the 2010 season he was released from Philadelphia and so could be drafted by other MLS teams.
Seitz was selected by the Seattle Sounders in the second phase re-entry draft. Shortly afterwards he was transferred from Seattle to FC Dallas . The Sounders were given preference at the MLS SuperDraft 2012.
National team
Seitz took part in the 2007 Junior World Cup in Canada with the U-20 national team. He reached the quarter-finals with the country selection, in which Austria lost 2-1 after extra time, and was used in four out of five games. In March 2008, the goalkeeper qualified with the Olympic selection for the Olympic tournament in China and was also called up by Piotr Nowak for the final round.
