Christel Pascal (born October 6, 1973 in Gap ) is a former French ski racer . She specialized in the technical disciplines of slalom and giant slalom and became vice world champion in slalom in 2001.

biography

Christel Pascal celebrated her first big success at the Junior World Championships in Maribor in 1992 with the silver medal in slalom behind Urška Hrovat . In 1993 she was accepted into the squad of the French ski team. In the Ski World Cup , she won her first points on December 30, 1994 with 13th place in the slalom in Méribel . The following four seasons were not very successful. Her name only appeared sporadically on the results lists in the points, once she reached a top 10 position on December 21, 1996 as seventh in the slalom of Crans-Montana .

In the 1999/2000 season Pascal rose to the top of the world. At the beginning of the season, she won the Copper Mountain slalom at the same time as Špela Pretnar . With nine other placements among the top ten, she took second place in the slalom discipline world cup this winter.

The 2000/01 season brought two podium finishes and, as the greatest success of her career, the silver medal in slalom at the 2001 World Championships in St. Anton am Arlberg . In the team competition held for the first time at the World Cup in Bormio in 2005 , she won her second World Cup medal with the French team with a third place. In the World Cup, she regularly achieved top 10 results and sometimes podium finishes until the 2002/03 season .

On January 5, 2004, Pascal broke in a fall in the second round of the slalom from Megeve the cruciate ligament in his right knee and was sidelined the rest of the season. Another injury followed on January 8, 2006 at the slalom in Maribor , which also meant the end of her career.

Christel Pascal was married to the former French ski racer Christophe Saioni and appeared in the results lists for a short time as Christel Pascal-Saioni. In 2002 the couple divorced.
