Christian Friedrich von Knebel (born March 5, 1743 in Bayreuth , † July 28, 1802 in Cosel ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Christian Friedrich was the son of Johann Georg Friedrich Knebel (born October 13, 1697 in Bayreuth; † March 3, 1787 ibid) and his wife Elisabeth Magdalene, née Mayer (born March 7, 1720 in Bayreuth; † March 6, 1805 in Ansbach ). His father was the margrave of Ansbach privy councilor , district envoy and feudal provost, his mother the daughter of court and government councilor Martin Gottlieb Mayer. His brother Karl Ludwig (1744–1834) was a German poet and translator, his brother Wilhelm (1741–1799), Brunswick ambassador to the court in Stuttgart, his younger sister was Henriette (1755–1813).

Military career

Knebel was in the service of Ansbach from 1758 and became a lieutenant there in 1765. On July 1, 1774, he transferred to Prussian service and was employed as a captain and company commander in the newly formed fusilier regiment "Prince of Hessen-Philipsthal" No. 55 . With the regiment Knebel took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 and rose to major on March 15, 1786 and lieutenant colonel on January 12, 1793 in the further course of his military career . As such, he fought in Poland in 1794/95 and was awarded the Pour le Mérite order for his achievements during the battle near Warsaw on August 29, 1794 . At the beginning of 1795 he was promoted to colonel .

On March 26, 1797 Knebel received the position of Commander of Cosel with an annual salary of 1700 thalers and finally on June 11, 1800, he became Major General. He died on July 28, 1802 in Cosel and was buried two days later in the city.

Knebel had married Luise Friederike Albertine Wilhelmine Reichsfreiin von Soden (born January 25, 1752 in Ansbach, † May 6, 1810 in Falkenburg an der Neisse) in his winter quarters in Hirschberg on January 10, 1779 . She was the daughter of the Ansbach Chamberlain and Rittmeister Heinrich Gabriel Freiherr von Soden. The following children were born from the marriage:
