Christian Seidel (born January 18, 1959 ) is a German writer and film producer who previously worked as a media manager. His book Die Frau in mir (2014), about several years of trying to live as a woman, was a bestseller.

Life

Christian Seidel attended the Pestalozzi-Gymnasium in Munich and studied piano and music at an early age, including at the Munich University of Music with the piano professor Rosl-Schmidt. He broke off his studies. Seidel trained as a projectionist and cutter at ARRI Munich. Then in 1983 he completed a three-year course in acting and directing at the state-run “New Munich Drama School”. A few years as an actor in theaters , films and crime scenes followed. He turned increasingly to the activity as an author and journalism . Seidel gained his first practical journalistic experience at Ringier- Verlag in Zurich , where he described the flight paths of airports for pilots' magazines ( Fliegermagazin ) and conducted an interview with the Indian guru Bhagwan Osho in Oregon, USA, for the SonntagsBlick . In the period that followed, Christian Seidel worked largely as a freelance author for various newspapers and magazines, such as the Süddeutsche Zeitung , Abendzeitung , Tempo , Wiener or Stern .

Media management

During the founding of the private television station in the second half of the 1980s, Seidel developed PR concepts and media campaigns on behalf of publishing groups such as Heinrich Bauer Verlag in Hamburg and television groups such as the Kirch Group . Heinrich Bauer Verlag funded in 1987 the art project Luna Luna by André Heller on the basis of a PR concept of Christian Seidel.

From the end of the 80s he managed the image and media work of the model Claudia Schiffer for many years. For the Gottschalk Late Night Show (RTL) he realized the Model '92 model contest and thus the first major casting competition for television.

One of his most committed projects was "TV For Nature". Under this label, Seidel worked with environmental organizations such as Artists United for Nature and the World Wildlife Fund to develop content for climate protection that was to be communicated worldwide through the project. He bundled the marketing tools of international media groups and environmental organizations. With over 30 television channels worldwide, including CBS , Antena 3 , TV1 , Sat.1, and numerous print media, the TV For Nature project is still one of the largest media campaigns for the environment of its time.

In 1993 Seidel became Director Program Marketing of the Kirch Group (Taurus Film), where he was responsible for the international marketing of the media group's films and TV stations. One of his ideas was to bring old US television series back into the press by having New York artists paint outdated newspaper reviews and present them in vernissages. Together with the children's book author Astrid Lindgren as patron, Christian Seidel introduced the “Junior” label for non-violent children's films.

Seidel founded his own company Christian Seidel Communications GmbH and took over a consulting contract from Leo Kirch for his television station. Within this task, he was also offered the management of the presenter Arabella Kiesbauer , whose daily and weekly talk show he accompanied in this role until 2004. Seidel later produced the political format Talk ohne Show for N24 with Arabella Kiesbauer and then Bärbel Schäfer as the presenter.

In London, Seidel realized the feature film The Biographer - The Secret Life of Princess Di (CBS 2002, Director: Philip Saville, England, 2002) with Faye Dunaway , Brian Cox , Hugh Bonneville as an independent producer after five years of development work together with director Philip Saville and starring Paul McGann , a film about the contradiction in image and reality of the British princess. Together with the British director Nicolas Roeg, he realized episodes for the arthouse project Sound on Film for BBC 2.

In 2015 Christian Seidel presented his 90-minute film documentary The Heavenly Hundred from Maidan Square (Nebesna Sotnja) on the occasion of the Maidan Memorial Days in Kiev .

Seidel's 2011 book Win Without Fighting is an examination of the loss of our values against the background of his career in the international media industry. The Woman in Me (2014) was on the Spiegel bestseller list for several months . The license was sold in numerous countries. Seidel reports in it about his experiences from several years of self- experiment to live as a woman. Dariush filmed Rafiy Seidel's experiences for the TV station ARTE under the title Christian and Christiane . In his Genderkey , published in 2016, the author focuses on the effect of gender roles on our coexistence. In I come - What a man feels during sex, he creates a picture of male sexuality based on his own example. In the book, Seidel sharply criticizes the men for their "speechlessness about their sexuality", especially in the light of the #metoo debate.
