Christiane Lutz (* 1980 in Mainz ) is a freelance German opera director .

Life

Lutz lives in Vienna , where she first studied theater studies , art history , musicology and business administration , and then music theater directing at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna .

She gained her first opera directing experience with Peter Konwitschny and Achim Freyer . Permanent engagements brought Christiane Lutz first to the Lübeck Theater and then to the Graz Opera House , where she staged, among other things, Alcina by Georg Friedrich Händel . From 2009 to 2011 Christiane Lutz supervised the global tour of Michael Sturminger's plays The Infernal Comedy - Confessions of a Serial Killer and The Giacomo Variations with John Malkovich in the lead role as production and evening play director . From 2011 she worked closely with the opera director Claus Guth . From 2012 to 2014 Christiane Lutz coordinated the children's opera tent of the Vienna State Opera , where she also staged the world premiere of Das Städtchen Drumherum by the Austrian composer Elisabeth Naske .

Her current productions include Reigen at the Opéra National de Paris , Wozzeck at the Cottbus State Theater , La traviata at the Operklosterneuburg and Manon at the Salzburg State Theater .

Lutz is married to the tenor Jonas Kaufmann . They have one child together.

Awards and grants

Lutz was a scholarship holder of the Bayreuth Festival and the Salzburg Festival as well as a finalist of the Ring Awards 2014.
