Christine Sixteen is the title of a song by the US band Kiss , released as a single in June 1977 .
background
The musical history of the Kiss band has several clearly separated phases. The band recorded five studio albums from 1974 to 1976 with Kiss , Hotter Than Hell , Dressed to Kill , Destroyer , Rock and Roll Over , which showed their typical hard rock comparatively consistently and without major deviations. The album Love Gun, from which Christine Sixteen was released as the first single , can be regarded as the final studio album of this first phase, as the group oriented itself towards the development of pop music after the release of their second live album, Alive II , and with the next joint studio album , Dynasty , followed the disco trend.
Christine Sixteen was written by Gene Simmons in the spring of 1976 . The title of the song was an idea by Paul Stanley , which Simmons adapted for his purposes. The original demo tape of the song was also made in 1976 at Larrabee Studios in Los Angeles and was recorded by Simmons with Alex and Eddie van Halen .
When the song was recorded for the album in 1977 at Record Plant Studios in New York City , Simmons took on both the vocals and the rhythm guitar ; the piano part was played by music producer Eddie Kramer . However, since Simmons had the impression that Kramer's playing was too clear and clean, he replayed this part to make it rougher. Simmons liked the guitar solo recorded during the demo recording by Eddie van Halen so much that he had Ace Frehley replay it note for note for the album.
The song was released in late June 1977 as the first single from the album Love Gun , Shock Me served as the B-side .
