Alive III is the third live album by the US hard rock band Kiss , released in 1993 .

History of origin

Classification in the musical background

The musical history of the band has several clearly separated phases. Kiss recorded six studio albums from 1974 to 1977 with Kiss , Hotter Than Hell , Dressed to Kill , Destroyer , Rock and Roll Over and Love Gun , which showed their typical hard rock comparatively consistently and without major deviations. During this time, two extremely successful live albums fell, namely 1975 Alive! and 1977 Alive II . Especially Alive! made the band suddenly known to a large audience.

After a temporary turn to pop music with the albums Dynasty and Unmasked , the group had attempted in 1981 to find the concept album Music from the Elder out of a crisis, but failed. Not until 1982 did the return to hard rock take place with the album Creatures of the Night . In the following years the band released six more albums.

While the first two live albums were still in the original line-up of the band, Alive III essentially summarized the musical work of the group after the separation of Peter Criss (1980) and Ace Frehley (1982). Like Alive II, Alive III marks the end of a creative phase, the band's next studio album, Psycho Circus , was recorded again by the four founding members and was only released in 1998.

Origin and result

Several concerts of the Revenge tour were recorded for Alive III : After attending the shows in Nashville and St. Louis, producer Eddie Kramer took the appearances on November 27, 1992 in Detroit , on November 28 in Cleveland and on November 29 in Indianapolis for possible use for the live album.

Work on the compilation of the album began in January 1993: Kramer added a recording of the title I Was Made for Lovin 'You for the European market , which was made during a soundcheck on the mini tour in Great Britain in May 1992. Audience sounds were later added to customize the recording for the album. The same was done with I Still Love You ; both songs had never been played on the tour, whose concerts were recorded for the album.

Alive III was released on May 16, 1993. I Was Made For Lovin 'You was released as a single in Europe .

Tour video

A video film about the Revenge tour was released on July 20, 1993 under the name Konfidential as a VHS cassette with a running time of 88 minutes. The video film was already an accompanying video for the live album Alive III . In addition to the new Revenge pieces, it also contained video material of older songs from the 1970s as well as recordings of various public appearances and backstage interviews. An essential part of the interview were the memories of the musicians about the band's history. The live recordings of the Revenge tour came from a show on November 27, 1992 in Auburn Hills, Michigan .

It wasn't until 2004 that Konfidential was released on DVD. The track list consisted of 16 tracks: Creatures of the Night, Deuce, I Just Wanna, Unholy, Heaven's On Fire, 100,000 Years (1976), Nothin 'To Lose (1975), Hotter Than Hell (1976), Let Me Go Rock' n 'Roll (1977), Domino, Lick It Up, Forever, Take It Off, I Love It Loud and God Gave Rock' n 'Roll To You II .

In 2007 the DVD box "Kissology Vol. 3 1992-2000" was released. It contained, among other things, the video recording of the concert on November 27, 1992, when Kiss played as part of the Revenge tour in Detroit. It's the same concert that was recorded for the live album Alive III , and it includes the tracks Creatures of the Night, Deuce, I Just Wanna, Unholy, Parasite, Heaven's On Fire, Domino, Watchin 'You, War Machine, Rock And Roll All Nite, Lick It Up, Take It Off, I Love It Loud, Detroit Rock City, God Gave Rock 'n' Roll To You II, Love Gun and Star Spangled Banner.
