Live to Win -

Live to Win is the second solo album by the US singer , guitarist and songwriter Paul Stanley , released in 2006 .

background

The band Kiss , of which Stanley is a founding member, had completed the "Rock the Nation" tour with 59 dates in 2004 and paused in 2005 and 2006, apart from a few individual dates. Stanley used this break to write songs for a solo album.

For the album he worked with numerous well-known artists and songwriters. So he renewed the collaboration with Desmond Child , who had already started in the 1970s, and who was involved in the songwriting of five titles. Other songwriters were Andreas Carlsson (who had worked with Hilary Duff and Jesse McCartney ), Marti Frederiksen ( Aerosmith , Def Leppard ), and Holly Knight, with whom Stanley had already written songs for Kiss.

Stanley was also able to win the guitarists John 5 and Bruce Kulick for the project: In addition to the songwriting for Where Angels Dare , John 5 also contributed two guitar solos, Kulick played bass on three pieces .

reception

Live to Win was released on October 27, 2006, reached number 53 on the Billboard 200 on November 11, 2006, and stayed in the American album charts for two weeks. The theme song was already on TV in the US in the Southpark episode Make love not Warcraft 20 days before it was released .

Rock Hard rated the album positively and awarded 9 out of 10 possible points:

28 years after his first solo record, Paul Stanley shows how to get to the heart of songs. Freed from the great kiss pose and supported by Guru Desmond Child, Starchild focuses on the essentials and provides ten different but very personal insights. There are of course no failures, outstanding are ´Wake Up Screaming´ and ´Bulletproof´ (if only Bon Jovi could also make songs like that!). With ´Loving You Without You´ there is finally another slutty ballad by Saint Stanislaus. Guitar connoisseurs will love the solo performances by John 5 and Bruce Kulick. “Live To Win” - no ordinary quick-shot solo album, but a detailed gem. "
