Christoph Altstaedt

Christoph Altstaedt (born January 19, 1980 in Heidelberg ) is a German conductor .

Life

Altstaedt was born in Heidelberg to German-French parents .

As a young student he studied piano with Edmundo Lasheras and conducting with Joachim Harder at the Detmold University of Music . He also received piano lessons from Karl-Heinz Kämmerling in Hanover. To study, he switched to the piano class of Jean-Efflam Bavouzet. In 2002 he continued his studies at the "Hanns Eisler" music college in Berlin. Hans-Dieter Baum and Alexander Vitlin were among his teachers. Since 2003 he has received a scholarship from the Conductors' Forum of the German Music Council . a. Courses with Kurt Masur , Pierre Boulez (as part of the Luzern Festival Academy), Sebastian Weigle , Johannes Kalitzke and Jorma Panula . In 2008 and 2009 he was one of the three conductors invited to Tanglewood as fellows . There he assisted James Levine in " Don Giovanni ".

He made his debut as an opera conductor in 2006 at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz , where he was hired by Klaus Schultz as a répétiteur last season . There he conducted “ Gianni Schicchi ”, “ The Magic Flute ”, “ The Abduction from the Seraglio ”, “ Werther ”, “ Hansel and Gretel ”, “ La Traviata ” and “Cinderella” by Peter Maxwell Davies .

Christoph Altstaedt studied human medicine at the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin and received his license to practice medicine in 2016 .
