Christoph Freiherr von Lattermann (born July 14, 1753 in Olomouc ; † October 5, 1835 in Vienna ) was an imperial-royal field marshal .

Life

As the son of a field marshal lieutenant , he was prepared for the soldier's profession at an early age and joined the imperial army as a cadet at the age of 13 . In ten years he became a captain. He distinguished himself in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 . In 1789, as a major in a pontoon battalion , he succeeded in building five bridges over the Danube and Sava under adverse circumstances during the siege of Belgrade . In 1793 he fought with flying colors on the Rhine and in 1794 became a colonel and commander of infantry regiment No. 3 promoted. In 1797 he took over command of a brigade in Italy as major general . For his achievements in the battle near Verona , he received the Knight's Cross of the Maria Theresa Order on July 7, 1799 . Under the command of Michael von Melas , he led a division in the Battle of Genola on November 4, 1799 . In the battle of Marengo (June 1800) he was badly wounded, so that further service in the field was impossible. In 1805 he retired as a field marshal lieutenant. As early as 1805 he was appointed interim commander of Bohemia and 1809 of the united border districts. In that year he was also appointed court war councilor , and in 1810 privy councilor . In 1813 he was appointed Feldzeugmeister and provisional civil and military governor of Illyria . In 1814 and 1818–1833 he took over the presidium of the Military Court of Appeal . In between, he was appointed commanding general in Veneto in 1815 . In 1826 he was appointed lieutenant captain of the Arcièren bodyguard . He retired in 1833 with the title of Field Marshal .

family

His parents were the Lieutenant Field Marshal Franz von Lattermann (1716-1806) and his first wife Anna Maria Freiin von Wittorf and Lüdersdorf and Hornburg († 1763). He himself was married to Countess Anna Maria von Welsersheim . The marriage remained childless.
