Jimmy Cremming ends up in Bangkok after a massive insurance fraud he was involved in and forced to leave the United States. He finds out that his partner and mentor Marvin has gone into hiding in Cambodia and goes in search of him - after all, he owes Jimmy his share of the insurance fraud. In Cambodia, he meets the beautiful Sophie, who offers him to start a new life together in Laos. But Jimmy doesn't want to give up his search for Marvin just yet. One day when Marvin's foot is sent to him as an unequivocal warning, things spiral out of control and Jimmy fears for his own life.

Reviews

Lou Lumenick praised the atmosphere in the New York Post , but criticized the incredibility of the plot and the lack of development of the characters.

Michael Wilmington wrote in the Chicago Tribune that the film was a " modern film noir ". It does not offer many surprises, the story is " typical ", but the script is "well written "; the film was also " very busy " ( " very well cast "). The critic found the ending " a little too optimistic ".

The lexicon of international film wrote that the film was " played excellent " and possess " all the ingredients that a film noir make up ." The action is " limited "; the film conjures up " an almost unreal atmosphere in which the Cambodian capital plays an essential role ".

The film was shot in New York City , Montreal , Bangkok and Cambodia , among others . The final showdown was implemented on Bokor Hill Station . Its production amounted to an estimated 17.5 million US dollars . It had its world premiere on September 10, 2002 at the Toronto International Film Festival . In January 2003 it was screened at the Sundance Film Festival . The film grossed approximately $ 325,000 in US theaters.
