Clifford Jarvis

Clifford Jarvis (* 26. August 1941 in Boston ; † 26. November 1999 in London ) was an American jazz - drummer of the hard bop and free jazz .

Live and act

Jarvis came from a musical family. His grandfather and father were both trumpeters and support his desire to become drummers. He graduated from Berklee College in the 1950s and made records with Chet Baker , Randy Weston , Yusef Lateef , Freddie Hubbard , Barry Harris , Jackie McLean and Elmo Hope . He played with Grant Green and Rahsaan Roland Kirk and worked with Sun Ra from 1962 to 1976 . He later played with Pharoah Sanders , Sonny Simmons , Alice Coltrane , Kenny Drew senior , Walter Davis , Archie Shepp and Siegfried Kessler .

Since 1983 he lived in London , where he led his group Prophets of Jazz . Patty Waters , former lover and mother of a son, dedicated her “Song for Clifford” to him.
