The Coalaque district is located in the General Sánchez Cerro province in the Moquegua region in southwestern Peru . The district was established on January 26, 1956. It has an area of ​​245 km². The 2017 census counted 1,028 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1567, in 2007 1307. The district administration is located in the 2283  m high village of Coalaque with 385 inhabitants (as of 2017). Coalaque is located 6 km northwest of the provincial capital Omate .

Geographical location

The district of Coalaque is located on the southern flank of the Cordillera Volcánica in the west of the province of General Sánchez Cerro. The area is drained south to the Río Tambo .

The Coalaque district is bordered to the west by the district Puquina , on the north by the district of San Juan de Tarucani ( province of Arequipa ), in the northeast on the district Matalaque and to the east and the southeast by the district Omate .
