Cole Jarrett (born January 4, 1983 in Sault Ste. Marie , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Belfast Giants in the Elite Ice Hockey League since 2017 . His brother Patrick Jarrett is also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Jarrett began his career in 1999 with the Plymouth Whalers in the Canadian Junior League OHL . In his second year, the defender was able to score 48 points in 60 games , making him the defender with the highest points in his team. In the next two years Jarrett was able to maintain his scorer qualities and increase his points yield. Consequently, the scouts of various NHL teams became aware of the left-handed shooter, so that he was selected in the fifth round of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft in 141st place by the Columbus Blue Jackets .

Then Cole Jarrett moved to the American Hockey League for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers . After initial difficulties, the defensive player was also able to prevail there and in the end even came to three NHL missions for the cooperation partner New York Islanders . Nevertheless, a jump into the National Hockey League was unlikely, and so the Canadian joined the Eisbären Berlin for the 2006/07 season . First Jarrett got a one-year contract, which was not extended at the end of the season, so he moved to HPK Hämeenlinna in the top Finnish league, the SM-liiga . Here, however, he was also unable to convince those responsible and left the club during the current season. In the end, the defender signed a contract with Jokerit Helsinki , but could not assert himself there either and changed clubs again. His last career stop in the 2007/08 season was the Malmö Redhawks .

After he had completed the 2008/09 season for the Nürnberg Ice Tigers , he moved to the Graz 99ers for the following season . From there, after only one season, he moved to Asia in the Asia League Ice Hockey to the Tohoku Free Blades , and after only one successful season he returned to Graz . With the Japanese ice hockey club Jarrett was champion in the 2010/11 season , and with 18 goals and 51 scorer points, he was statistically the best defender in the league. After returning to Austria, he was promoted to captain of the 99ers, but could not qualify for the play-offs with the team, but his contract was extended for another year in February 2012. In the following season 2012/13 he made it with the team in the play-offs, where the team was eliminated in the quarter-finals against eventual champions EC KAC . On March 15, 2013 Jarrett's change within the league to EC VSV was announced; he received a contract with a term of two years and was appointed assistant captain at the start of the season. The 2013/14 season he finished as the third best scorer of the EC VSV. After the following season he could not agree on a contract extension with the VSV and left the club.
