Coventry City (officially: Coventry City Football Club ) - also known by the nickname The Sky Blues due to the sky blue and white club colors - is an English football club from Coventry . In 2012 the club was relegated from the Football League Championship , the second-highest English division, in 2017 it was relegated to the fourth-class EFL League Two , in 2018 it was immediately promoted to EFL League One and in 2020 it returned to the championship.
society
The club was founded in 1883 . Until 2005, the club played in Highfield Road , which last had 23,633 spectators (record attendance: 51,455 spectators on April 29, 1967 against Wolverhampton Wanderers ). From the 2005/06 season to 2013, the multifunctional Ricoh Arena (capacity: 32,500 seats) was home to the Sky Blues .
After disputes over unpaid stadium rent, the club moved out of the stadium in March 2013. Coventry City then played its home games at Sixfields Stadium in Northampton . In August 2014, the dispute was settled and the club reached an agreement with the stadium operator ACL on a two-year contract with an option for two more years.
The greatest success was the victory in the final of the FA Cup on May 16, 1987 against Tottenham Hotspur . In league football, sixth place in the first division in 1969/70 was the best result so far.
