Cumming is a city and also the county seat of Forsyth County in the US state of Georgia with 5430 inhabitants (as of 2010).
geography
Cumming is on the west bank of Lake Lanier and is approximately 50 km northeast of Atlanta .
history
Cumming was founded in 1834. It is not clear whether the city name derives from either Colonel William Cumming of Augusta, an eminent lawyer, or Sir Alexander Cumming of England, who came to America in 1729 and became a Cherokee leader.
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the 5430 inhabitants at that time were distributed among 1893 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.57 people per household. There are a total of 2037 households.
57.1% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 3.25 persons. There were children under the age of 18 in 32.2% of all households and persons aged 65 or over in 31.4% of all households.
24.6% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 30.6% were 20 to 39 years old, 21.8% were 40 to 59 years old, and 22.8% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 37 years. 48.8% of the population were male and 51.2% were female.
76.6% of the population identified themselves as whites , 2.9% as African American , 0.5% as Indians and 1.4% as Asian Americans . 17.0% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.7% to several ethnic groups. 31.4% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
The average annual income per household was 47,125 USD , while 14.1% of the population lived below the poverty line.
