Dan Popek (* 23. March 1996 in Bad Friedrichshall ) is a German Jazz - Classical - Boogie Woogie - and blues - pianist .

Musical career

Dan Popek grew up in a musical family. He began playing the piano at the age of four. At the age of twelve he discovered his passion for jazz, blues and boogie-woogie and began to occupy himself with this style of music in addition to classical piano lessons. After graduating from high school, he decided to become a professional musician.

Popek gave his first concerts at the age of 13. Musically he was influenced by Joja Wendt , with whom he played in 2010 in the Alte Mälzerei in Mosbach. At the age of 15 he made a brief appearance at the concert of Axel Zwingenberger in the Alte Oper in Frankfurt. A year later he appeared as a surprise guest of Axel Zwingenberger at the international boogie woogie festival "The Hamburg Boogie Woogie Connection" in the Hamburg factory . At the age of 16, he gave a concert in Langen with blues legend Abi Wallenstein .

Appearances at home and abroad followed, u. a. with Barbara Dennerlein , Vince Weber , Silvan Zingg , Cory Henry , Mojo Blues Band and the Spider Murphy Gang as well as invitations to international festivals. In 2013 Popek first appeared on SWR4 radio. Further stations were the festival at Kapfenburg Castle in front of 2,500 spectators, the Pinneberger Summerjazz Festival, the Haßfurter Bluesnacht, the International Brunner Blues & Boogie Woogie Festival in Austria, the Bavarian Jazzweekend, the International Boogie Woogie Festival Cambrai in France, and others. a. with Daryl Davis , the International Zingster Piano Days, a. a. with Martin Tingvall , the New Orleans Music Festival Bad Hersfeld and the Idstein Jazz Festival.

He was a guest of Lars Redlich on the Berlin show "Berlin in a Train" and appeared next to Tim Fischer and Johnny Armstrong . In 2016 he accepted the invitation to " Coffee or Tea " on SWR television . The following year he performed at the Jazz Fest Wien in Jazzland with Martin Pyrker and at the International Jazz Festival Prague in Reduta .

In 2018 he played a concert at the Cotton Club in Hamburg. He was also a member of the jury for the final piano competition by Casio / C. Bechstein in Hamburg. He then wrote his own composition for Casio Music.

In 2019 he performed at the International Dixieland Festival Dresden on the open-air stage Großer Garten in front of 3,000 spectators and received the festival's special prize. In the same year he was a guest at the Wetzlar Festival alongside Anke Helfrich .
