Daniel Ellis (born October 7, 1988 in Albury ) is a former Australian track cyclist .
Athletic career
Daniel Ellis is a specialist in the short-term disciplines on the track, sprint , keirin and team sprint . Until 2006 he was able to win national junior titles and podium places in these disciplines several times. In 2006 he was also vice world champion of the juniors in the sprint and team sprint in Ghent . In 2007 he won the title of Oceania champion in the team sprint together with Ryan Bayley and Shane Kelly .
2010 Ellis was Australian champion in sprint and team sprint (with Alex Bird and Gary Ryan ), in the Keirin he finished second; he was also Oceania champion in the sprint. At the UCI Track World Championships 2010 in Ballerup , the Australian team finished 7th with Ellis, in the sprint he was 18th.
At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , Daniel Ellis started in the team sprint; the team took fourth place. Two years later he won gold in the same discipline at the Commonwealth Games with Jason Niblett and Scott Sunderland .
After Ellis was not nominated for the 2012 Olympic Games in London , he ended his cycling career in 2012 and began working as a postman . In 2013 he announced his comeback to qualify for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow . He started at a run of the Track Cycling World Cup and at the UCI Track World Championships in 2014 . When he failed to qualify, he resigned for good in 2015.
