Daniel Freiherr von Salis-Soglio (born February 19, 1826 in Chur , Graubünden ; † September 19, 1919 there ) was Feldzeugmeister and general inspector of genius in the Austro-Hungarian army .

Life

Daniel von Salis-Soglio came from the Swiss noble family Salis , he was a son of the Swiss Colonel Emanuel Freiherr von Salis-Soglio (* Zizenhausen near Stockach - † 1863), Swiss canton colonel, and Margareta Perpetua Freiin von Salis-Rietberg (* 1804- † 1854). He graduated from the engineering academy and was retired to lieutenant on September 22, 1845 . In 1848 he was promoted to first lieutenant and in 1849 to captain . He took part in the campaign in Italy in 1859 , assigned to the field genius inspection of the Second Army, with distinction. Salis-Soglio became major in 1860 , took part in the campaign against Denmark as chief genius of the 2nd Austrian Corps in 1864 and advanced to lieutenant colonel . In the same year Salis-Soglio became director of genius in Graz . In 1866 he was fortress commander of Rovigo and in 1867 was appointed director of fortifications in South Tyrol and in the same year he was appointed chief of the staff of genius. 1871 in the same capacity for Przemyśl staggered, 1873 chief genius at corps headquarters in Lviv , and on November 1, 1874 to Major General conveyed. On July 5, 1876, he was appointed President of the Military Technical and Administrative Committee and in May 1879 promoted to Lieutenant Field Marshal . In 1880 Salis was appointed General Inspector of Genius and promoted to Feldzeugmeister on May 1, 1889. Salis-Soglio had been the owner of Infantry Regiment No. 76 since March 1891. On July 12, 1892, Emperor Franz Joseph I approved Salis's application for a pension with his domicile in Vienna.
