Robert Daniel "Danny" Nightingale (born May 21, 1954 in Redruth ) is a former British pentathlete .
Career
Nightingale was twice part of the British team at the Olympics . When he first participated in 1976 in Montreal , he reached tenth place in the individual competition . With the team, which included Jeremy Fox and Adrian Parker in addition to Nightingale , he became Olympic champion . The 1980 Games in Moscow were less successful . In the individual he did not get more than 15th place , in the team classification it was only enough for eighth place.
During his first Olympics he studied mechanical engineering at the University of Sussex . Between 1976 and 1978 he won the British championship three times in a row, in 1979 he became the first athlete in the western world to win the Spartakiad in his sport . After his career as an active athlete, he worked as an association functionary in the modern pentathlon.
