Pawel Serafimowitsch Lednjow ( Russian Павел Серафимович Леднёв , born March 23, 1943 in Gorky , † November 23, 2010 in Moscow ) was a Soviet modern pentathlon .

With a total of seven medals at four Summer Olympics and four individual and two team championship titles, he is one of the most successful modern pentathletes in sports history.

When he first participated in the Olympics at the 1968 Games in Mexico City , he won a silver medal with the Soviet team and a bronze medal in the individual competition. Four years later at the 1972 Games in Munich he was Olympic champion with the team and third in the individual competition. At the Games in Montreal in 1976 he won the silver medal in an individual competition. In front of his home crowd at the 1980 Games in Moscow , he and the team won the team competition for the second time as well as his fourth individual medal with a third place in the individual competition.

In 1973, 1974, 1975 and 1978 Pawel Lednjow became individual world champion and 1977 vice world champion. At team world championships he took first place with the Soviet team in 1973 and 1974, second place in 1963, 1965, 1966 and 1977 and third place in 1975 and 1978.
