Wladimir Konstantinowitsch Schmeljow ( Russian Владимир Константинович Шмелёв ; born August 31, 1946 in Magadan ) is a former Soviet pentathlete .
Career
Shmelev took in 1972 at the Olympics in Munich in part in individual and team competition. In the individual, he missed a medal in fifth place. With the team, which included Borys Onyshchenko and Pavel Lednjow in addition to Minejew , he became Olympic champion .
At world championships he won the team competitions with Onyshchenko and Lednyov in 1973 and 1974 . In these competitions he was both times behind Lednyov and before Onyshchenko vice world champion. 1975 followed again a third place with the team. In 1971 and 1972 he became Soviet champion. After his active career he worked as a pentathlon coach.
