Dărmăneşti ( Hungarian Dormánfalva ) is a city in Bacău County in Romania .
Geographical location
Dărmăneşti is located at the confluence of the Uz River in the Trotuş on the eastern edge of the Carpathian Mountains in a valley basin named after a neighboring town ( Depresiunea Comăneşti ), between the Nemira Mountains in the south, Berzunt in the east and Ciuc in the northwest. The district capital Bacau is located about 40 km northeast.
history
Dărmăneşti was first mentioned in a document in 1590. The place name is said to go back to a locator called Dărmăn. In 1989 Dărmăneşti was declared a city.
For a long time the inhabitants lived mainly from forestry and cattle breeding. Today trade plays an important role. In the vicinity of the city, oil is produced to a lesser extent. Above the city is the Poiana Uzului dam, which is used to store drinking water and generate electricity.

Dărmăneşti was only a small place for a long time. In 1781 there were 11 farms. At the 2002 census, Dărmăneşti had 14,194 people, including 13,518 Romanians , 759 Roma and 11 Hungarians . In 2011, 12,247 people were registered, of which 10,528 were Romanians, 941 Roma, ten were Hungarians, three each known themselves to be German and Italian and 762 did not provide any information about their ethnic group .

Dărmăneşti owns two stations on the Sfântu Gheorghe – Adjud railway with the names Valea Uzului and Valea Uzului hc. ; Passenger trains stop here several times a day. There are also good bus connections to the district capital Bacau. The national road ( drum na dieional ) DN 12A runs from Bacău to Miercurea Ciuc on the eastern edge of the city .
