Darts is the name of a British singing group that was active between 1977 and 1985 and, in an old tradition, maintained the Doo Wop music style or resurrected it. The biggest hits were Come Back My Love and It's Raining (both UK No. 2 in 1978).

biography

After the John Dummer Blues Band broke up , drummer John Dummer and bassist Iain Thompson formed the group Darts. There were also keyboardist Hammy Howell, saxophonist Horatio Hornblower and bassist Den Hegarty as well as singers Rita Ray, Griff Fender and Bob Fish. Together they created a sound that combined rock 'n' roll with harmony singing. By supporting the London Pop - historian and radio DJ Charlie Gillett took place in the late 1970s to a record deal with the label Magnet Records.

The debut single , a medley of Daddy Cool and the Littel Richard hit The Girl Can't Help It , became the band's first major success and entered the top 10 of the British charts in late 1977. By 1980 the group had a number of other chart hits , including the self-written songs It's Raining and Don't Let It Fade Away and cover versions of American hits such as The Cardinals ' Come Back My Love , The Ad Libs ' The Boy from New York City , Gene Vincent's Get It and Gene Chandler's Duke of Earl .

In 1979 Hegarty left the band and was replaced by Kenny Edwards. With the following singles Can't Get Enough of Your Love , Reet Petite , Peaches and Sh-Boom / White Christmas , the darts could only reach middle chart positions, only Let's Hang On achieved a top 20 position in 1980.

After Howell and Dummer also left the darts, the group released various singles until 1985, but remained unsuccessful. Hegarty had a couple of hits as the leader of Rocky Sharpe and the Replays ; Ray and Fish produced an album in 1985 for a girl group called Mint Juleps, which was inspired by the darts and attracted attention with a cappella singing.
