The new guests of the dream ship come on board. Your trip goes to New England and Canada , the area that is known for the Indian Summer , which is presented there in a breathtaking way, an unparalleled frenzy of colors. Among them is Roland Wagner, a former top athlete in Iron Man who is paraplegic after a bicycle accident . He starts the trip accompanied by his girlfriend Caro. Wagner didn't let his handicap get him down and continues to go on daring tours with Caro, a photographer. During the course of the trip, when he tried to be the first wheelchair user to circumnavigate Mount Desert Island , an incident occurred that could have ended tragically. Roland decides to make Caro believe that their relationship is rather non-committal because he doesn't want the young woman to have a future with a disabled person. But through Captain Paulsen, who is his godfather, and Inka, he thinks about it a little later and proposes to Caro, which she refuses. Only at the end of the trip does he win the young woman back after he was able to make it clear to her that he is really willing to change his life and start a family with her.
Among the new guests is Irmgard Altmann with her son Thomas. She wants to celebrate her 65th birthday on the ship. Her younger son Klaus hired as a ship's carpenter on the Deutschland . The family owns a sawmill in the Black Forest . In the past there were always arguments between the brothers, which continues on the ship. Klaus is of the opinion that the now deceased father would always have preferred the older brother to him. The shore excursion is used by Thomas to conduct wood negotiations with the Ewing Company, including a flight over part of the North American forests. At the destination, the brothers have another competition, this time to see who can cut a tree faster. Thomas knocks the ax in his leg and only owes it to his brother's quick intervention that worse is prevented. Klaus is puzzled when he learns that Thomas has a very rare blood type. Back on the ship, Klaus wants to know from his mother who his father is. He got his blood type from Dr. Let Schröder determine. After that, he and Thomas cannot have the same father. His mother doesn't want to answer his questions. When he again wants to know the truth about his father at his mother's birthday party, he learns to his great astonishment that it was not he but his brother who had a different father. It is about a friend of Klaus father, who was killed in a motorcycle accident at the time. He had taken care of his friend's wife and child and that became love. The brothers finally speak up and give the mother the best birth present when they tell her that they want to run the sawmill together in the future.
Another guest on board is Jakob Paulsen's sister Ellen Barner, whose surprising visit the captain is particularly happy about. Between Ellen and the ship's doctor Dr. Horst Schröder quickly developed a close bond. At the end of the journey, they touchingly confess their love for one another. For the ship's doctor, Dr. Schröder that he will end his service on the Germany .
The ship hostess Beatrice and Captain Paulsen, who want to see the magnificent colonial-style mansions on Martha's Vineyard , the island of the rich and beautiful, happen to meet in front of one of the mansions just as actor Larry Hagman steps out of the front door. In his farewell speech at the Captains Diner, the captain says that a young couple would have almost lost each other if they hadn't thought about their greatest asset, their love. He also mentions that the crew had to lament the loss of the ship's carpenter, but that a mother saw her sons reunited and two brothers had found each other again. Captain Paulsen also speaks of the fact that from now on his sister's attention is directed to a man whose love she has won, “our Dr. Schröder ". He closes with the words: "This is how we thank fate, which repeatedly and surprisingly shuffles its cards."
