The Trojan Horse is a band from Vienna , which can be roughly described stylistically with the term chanson punk .

history

The founding members Hubert Weinheimer and Hans Wagner met in the summer of 2006 at the second concert of Wagner's band Neuschnee . A little later they met again at a seminar at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna . In February 2007 they played their first concert at the invitation of Ernst Molden in his opening act. In March 2007 the demo EP Triptychon was recorded. In 2007 and 2008 the band played numerous concerts in Austria and southern Germany.

In 2009 she released her self-titled debut album, on which numerous guest musicians ( Ernst Molden , Paper Bird , Velojet and others) are represented. This album was recorded - live - in Hans Wagner's living room with the help of the Burgtheater musician and author Bernhard Moshammer and was released on Cheap Records, which until then had primarily made a name for itself in the electro scene. Wien brennt was played sporadically by the Austrian radio station FM4 . In the show Im Sumpf , other songs from the album were also used repeatedly, in particular elevator music / My Heart ... , which became a musical symbol of the band due to the concise final chorus "my heart beats me inside dead". At the end of 2009 the band went on a short tour with Nils Kopagh , whose album Loch in der Welt (with the band Fink ) is a formative influence for Hubert Weinheimer.

In February 2010 a remix EP (vinyl) of the debut album was released with the title Hybrid , which was presented at a live concert at Flex in Vienna . With Treibgut , the bonus track of the EP, the band had their first song in regular FM4 rotation. In 2011 the band switched to Problembär Records , where bands befriended such as Neuschnee, Parkwächter Harlekin and Der Nino from Vienna are also represented. The first release on the new label was a live EP from a concert at the ORF-Radiokulturhaus with the title so , which was offered for free download.

In 2012 the band released their second album (vinyl / CD) with anger and discipline . FM4 first took What You Not All Say in rotation and later Hard Bread . Also in 2012 a compilation for Preiser Records was published . The band covered a piece by Kurt Sowinetz . At the Wiener Popfest 2012 the band played in large cast on the open-air stage. Three songs from this concert were compiled in a short live EP and made available for download free of charge on the band's website.

From November 2012 to May 2013 the band performed live music for the play Der Weltuntergang by Jura Soyfer in the Rabenhof Theater Vienna. The piece and especially the musical implementation of the band received high praise from numerous media. The corresponding EP music from the play the end of the world by jura soyfer was published digitally in early 2013.

In 2014 the band played alongside Gisbert zu Knyphausen , Fehlfarben , Knarf Rellöm and many more. a song on the sampler A Tribute to Nils Kopocht & Fink . They covered the piece dog . At the end of 2014, Hubert Weinheimer published a critical article on contemporary pop music in The Gap magazine .

In January 2015 they released the single Idiotenlied . In May of the same year, the band's third studio album was released with Dekadenz . The second radio single was I you he she it (Warren's song) . At the end of 2015 the sampler contribution Staub (Stirner & Seidl Remix) appeared , which also went into rotation on FM4 the following summer.

In the announcement of the Vienna Popfest 2016, the music journalist Robert Rotifer wrote: "In future retrospectives is entitled The Trojan Horse" Absurd unterbefeierte anti-pop legend's appearance, which extends at 4:00 in the morning at the woodwinds, "firmieren." Ensemble Federspiel ended was, according to the standard, "the highlight" of the festival for many.

In 2018 Hubert Weinheimer played solo in the theater production "Digitalis Trojana" at the Schauspielhaus Wien . In addition to three songs from the band's catalog, a new song was also heard - as well as a Beatles cover version. He also had a short speaking scene. In an interview he gave in this context, he spoke out vehemently against the trivialization tendencies in contemporary pop music.
