David Jirka (born January 4, 1982 in Jindřichův Hradec ) is a Czech rower .

Jirka was fourth in eighth at the 1999 Junior World Championships , and in 2000 he won the bronze medal in the quadruple sculls . In the adult class Jirka started in a four-man without a helmsman in 2002 and rowed in this boat class to eleventh place at the world championships . In 2003 he returned to the double fours. After two fourth places and a second place in the 2003 World Cup , David Kopřiva , Petr Vitasek , Jakub Hanák and David Jirka won the silver medal behind the German double four at the World Championships in Milan . In the 2004 World Cup, Jirka took third place twice with a double scull, and in the final of the Olympic Games in Athens the Russians won ahead of the Czechs with David Kopřiva, Tomáš Karas , Jakub Hanák and David Jirka.

In 2005 the Czech quadruple finished twice in second and once in third place in the World Cup , while Milan Doleček , Václav Chalupa , Jakub Hanák and David Jirka rowed to fourth place at the World Championships in Gifu . In the 2006 World Cup, the Czech double foursome won in Munich and Lucerne and took third place in Poznan behind Poland and France. At the World Championships in Eton , Tomáš Karas, Václav Chalupa, Milan Doleček and David Jirka came in fifth. In the 2007 season, Jirka took two medals in the World Cup with the double fours, at the World Championships in Munich Petr Vitasek, Tomáš Karas, Jakub Hanák and David Jirka finished fifth. After the results in the 2008 World Cup were significantly weaker than in previous years, the Czech double foursome with Vitasek, Doleček, Hanák and Jirka missed the A-final at the 2008 Olympic Games and finished in tenth place. With Karas for Doleček, the Czech quadruple finished fourth at the European Championships at the end of the season.

At the 2010 European Championships , Petr Vitasek and David Jirka rowed in double sculls to the bronze medal. At the World Championships in New Zealand , the two rowed to ninth place. After a weak season in double sculls in 2011 with a twelfth place for Vitasek and Jirka at the World Championships , Jirka rowed with a young double scull to sixth place at the European Championships in 2011 . After the Czech double foursome missed the Olympic qualification at the decisive regatta in Lucerne in 2012, Jirka rowed to third place in the 2012 European Championships . After a sixth place with eighth at the 2013 European Championships , Jirka returned to the 2014 European Championships in double fours and finished seventh. At the 2014 World Championships , Jirka rowed the double scull to seventeenth place.
