David Stockton (born June 24, 1991 in Spokane , Washington ) is an American basketball player . He is under contract with the NBA team Los Angeles Lakers .

After graduating, Stockton was able to recommend himself through the NBA Development League (D-League) for the highest endowed professional league NBA in his home country. After three appearances for the Sacramento Kings in the NBA 2014/15 , however, they released him from his contract in the following pre-season shortly before the start of the season. Stockton's father John was also a basketball player and is considered a member of the Dream Team and the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as one of the best building players in basketball history.

Career

While his two years older brother Michael , who later played as a professional player in the German basketball league , studied at a small college in Salt Lake City , where his father had spent his entire 19-year professional career, David got one in Spokane in 2009 Study place at Gonzaga University in the birthplace and hometown of the family, where the father also studied and laid the foundation for his sporting career. After David Stockton had suspended the first freshman year of championship games, he joined the Bulldogs college team in the NCAA's West Coast Conference (WCC) in 2010 . His teammates until 2013 included the German national player Elias Harris and the Canadian national player Kelly Olynyk as well as later his colleague Kevin Pangos and the Polish national player Przemysław Karnowski . In all of his seasons with the Bulldogs, Stockton was able to qualify with the team under coach Mark Few for the national NCAA finals and until 2012 also always win the championship tournament of the WCC. After two second-round defeats in the NCAA finals, the Bulldogs were the first team in history in the 2013 Associated Press Top25 Poll, which made them one of the favorites of the finals, but they lost again in the second game of the finals against the fittingly Shockers called Wichita State University team . Also in the following finals in 2014 they lost without Harris and Olynyk, both of whom had initially come under the highest-endowed professional league NBA with varying degrees of success , again in the second game of the finals.

After completing his studies, Stockton was not selected by any club in the 2014 NBA draft , but got a contract with the Washington Wizards for a week in the pre-season . Finally, Stockton got a contract in the NBA Development League (D-League) with the Bighorns from Reno (Nevada) , the farm team of the Sacramento Kings. However, the Bighorns missed the play-offs for the championship of this division at the end of the season . But Stockton managed to get recommended for a short-term contract in February 2015 with the Kings, where he made his debut in the NBA in the game with the Los Angeles Clippers . After the end of the main round of the D-League, the Kings signed Stockton for a longer period of time, who came on two more missions in the NBA 2014/15 , in which the Kings also failed to qualify for the play-offs. In preparation for the following season, the Kings ended their engagement almost a week before the start of the season. A month later, Stockton returned to the Reno Bighorns after the D-League season started.

After brief stints in Croatia ( KK Cedevita Zagreb ) and New Zealand (New Zealand Breakers), Stockton returned to the Reno Bighorns for the 2017/18 season after failing to make it into the final Phoenix Suns squad . In March 2018, Utah Jazz followed suit from the NBA, which signed Stockton for a limited period of time. This was followed by a commitment Stockton for the rest of the season. While he performed well in the D-League, he did not make a breakthrough in the NBA until then.

In the summer break of 2018, he accepted an offer from the German Bundesliga club Medi Bayreuth and thus switched to the league in which his brother Michael was active before him. Stockton was used in 20 Bundesliga games, scored an average of 9.8 points per encounter and prepared 4.1 basket hits for his companions.

In early October 2019, the Los Angeles Lakers NBA team  announced Stockton's commitment.
