Career

Cyclist

Davide Cassani in 1982 cyclist at Team Termolan of Bruno Reverberi . In 1986 he moved to Team Carrera , where Claudio Chiappucci , Roberto Visentini and Stephen Roche were among his teammates. In 1988 he drove for Gewiss-Bianchi , u. a. with Moreno Argentin . From 1990 to 1994 he wore the jersey of Ariostea and in 1995 of MG Maglificio-Technogym . Shortly after joining Saeco in 1996, he was hit by a car and as a result of this accident had to end his career as an active cyclist. He then became sporting director for the Mercatone Uno team in 1997 .

Cassani was considered a specialist in long escapes and one of the best helpers. He won a total of 27 professional races. He was nominated nine times for the Italian team for the UCI Road World Championship , which he finished in seventh in 1988 and ninth in 1991 .

His greatest successes include victories at the Giro dell'Emilia in 1990, 1991 and 1995, at Milan – Turin in 1991, two stages at the Giro d'Italia in 1991 and 1993 , at the Trofeo dello Scalatore in 1991, the Mediterranean Tour in 1994 and two editions of the Coppa Agostoni . His best placings in the classics were a third place in the Flèche Wallonne and the Tour of Lombardy in 1992 and a second place in the Amstel Gold Race in 1995 .

journalist

At the end of his cycling career, Cassani became a commentator on the Italian TV station RAI and has since commented on all major cycling races . During the broadcast of a stage of the 2007 Tour de France , he praised Michael Rasmussen for his diligence in training and reported on his impressions while he watched him train in Trentino . This information could cost the Danes, at this point in time in the yellow jersey , victory in the tour. His team Rabobank took Rasmussen, who had previously been accused of having given the doping control officers wrong whereabouts, out of the race for violating the team rules, as he had stated to the team that he was in Mexico at the time.

Cassani, along with another ex-professional cyclist, Massimo Boglia , is the protagonist of the Le Grandi Salite del Ciclismo series, also published on DVD , in which the two conquer the most famous climbs of the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France together. He is the author of the annually published Almanacco del Ciclismo and, together with Ivan Zazzaroni and Pier Bergonzi, co-author of a biography on Marco Pantani ( Pantani. Un eroe tragico ).

Commissario tecnico

In 2014, Cassani took over the Italian elite national team as Commissario Tecnico .
