Davina Lucy Pascale McCall (born October 16, 1967 in London ) is an English presenter and actress who works for British television. She is best known for hosting the UK version of Big Brother .

Life

childhood

At the age of three, McCall moved to live with her grandparents in Surrey after their parents divorced. Her French mother Florence moved back to Paris, where McCall could visit her during the holidays. She continued to visit her father Andrew, a graphic designer , on weekends before moving in with him and his new wife Gaby at age 13.

youth

McCall attended the Godolphin and Latymer School private school in Hammersmith . She suffered from anorexia during her youth . McCall sang professionally in a band at the age of 15, but decided to start a solo career at the age of 19. During this time she was in a relationship with Eric Clapton , an old McCalls family friend. He produced a demo cassette for her and helped her try to storm the pop music world. Disappointed with the failure, she gave up singing and started at Models One as a dispatcher . She also appeared in Kylie Minogue's music video for "Word Is Out". She later ran a restaurant in Paris for two years and worked there as a singing waitress. She returned to London after a failed application as a cabaret artist at the Moulin Rouge . During this time she became a drug addict.

After dating Eric Clapton, she married Andrew Lagget in 1997, but soon divorced him.

In 2000 McCall married Matthew Robertson, with whom they have three children.

Career

After breaking off the drugs, Eric Clapton helped her and she got her own show on MTV .

In 1995 she hosted the God's Gift game show on ITV and later the Streetmate game show on Channel 4 . After the show's moderate success, McCall hosted the UK version of Big Brother in 2000 and Celebrity Big Brother in 2001 , hosting all seasons and some special programs ( Big Brother: On The Couch ) until it was discontinued in 2010 . She also hosted the 2000 Brit Awards , as well as some of the Comic Relief benefit shows. McCall also hosted many shows on ITV and, in 2004, the British Academy Television Awards .

McCall acted again by appearing on the 2001 sitcom Sam's Game , which was discontinued after only one season after poor criticism. She has also appeared on Leigh Francis ' sketch shows Bo Selecta and A Bear's Tail .

In 2003, McCall was named one of the 100 Worst Britons in a Channel 4 poll .

During Big Brother season 6, McCall sparked a discussion because she was wearing a bikini while interviewing candidate Sam Heuston . Shortly thereafter, she received several complaints for her hostile interview with candidate Makosi Musambasi on the night of the decision. In December 2005, it was announced that McCall was getting her own talk show called Davina on BBC One . After the first broadcast in February 2006, the program was canceled in April of the same year due to poor ratings.

She hosted the British Academy Television Awards in March 2006, Sport Relief in April 2006 and March 2008, and Red Nose Day in March 2007 .

She appeared in the Sugababes and Girls Aloud music video for Walk This Way .

McCall also appeared in the documentary Let's Talk Sex , which shows how sexual education is carried out in British schools.
