Dawsonville is a city and also the county seat of Dawson County in the US state of Georgia with 2536 inhabitants (as of 2010).
geography
Dawsonville is about 50 miles north of Atlanta . About 20 km northwest of Dawsonville is Amicalola Falls State Park with the highest waterfalls in the eastern United States.
history
Dawsonville, which was founded in 1857, is the county seat . The name of the place goes to William C. Dawson back in 1836, a company in the war against Muskogee - Indians led and member of the US Senate was 1849-1855.
The city's most prominent citizen is NASCAR racing driver Bill Elliott , to whom the city also dedicated a museum. Among other things, he is nicknamed "Awesome Bill from Dawsonville" as a tribute to his hometown. His son Chase Elliott , who has won six cup races so far, was also born in Dawsonville.
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 2536 inhabitants were distributed over 889 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.52 people per household. There are a total of 971 households.
70.2% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 2.98 persons. Children under the age of 18 lived in 34.8% of all households and persons aged 65 or over in 21.1% of all households.

94.6% of the population identified themselves as whites , 1.7% as African American , 0.1% as Indians and 0.6% as Asian Americans . 1.5% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.5% to several ethnic groups. 4.7% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
The average annual income per household was 51,576 USD , while 10.6% of the population lived below the poverty line.

The Dawson County Courthouse , Dawson Couty Jail , Boyd and Sallie Gilleland House, and Steele's Covered Bridge are listed on the National Register of Historic Places .
