The department of San Martín is located in the center of the province of Santiago del Estero in northwest Argentina and is one of the province's 27 administrative units .

It is bordered by the Robles Department in the north, the Avellaneda Department in the east, the Sarmiento Department in the southeast, the Atamisqui Department in the south and the Loreto and Silípica Department in the west .

The capital of the Department of San Martín is Brea Pozo .
