action

The children Sonja and Helmut Schmitt lost their parents in a car accident. At first, their grandmother takes over the supervision and care of the two. When she can no longer perform this task for health reasons, the mayor and brewery operator Gassner gives her a new home. In this way he secures respect and recognition in the village. Nobody suspects what really happened: The egocentric Gassner let his underage daughter Christa drive his deregistered, medium-green old Mercedes. While driving without a license, she caused the accident and first forced her father to do this outwardly “good deed”. Should the truth come to light, Gassner fears defeat in the upcoming mayoral election and damage to his reputation.

Gassner hides the accident vehicle in the coach house on his yard. When his employee Karl discovered the vehicle there, he gave him a piece of developed property. Since the police can't find the accident vehicle, Sonja goes looking for it herself. On the pretext that she wanted to go to the cemetery, she rode her bike through the village. Shortly before leaving for a children's home, Sonja discovers the accident vehicle in the mayor's remise. She rushes to the village police station. When she tells the police about her discovery, they are called to a fire in Frabertsham . Police officer Brandmeier promises Sonja that she will take care of her concerns later.

Since he cannot keep his promise due to the deployment, Sonja sees only one way out: she sets fire to the depot and the accident vehicle. When the police arrive the next day to determine the cause of the fire, Sonja and Helmut are already on their way to the home. The damage to the vehicle remains undetected, also due to the fire.

criticism

TV Spielfilm pointed with the thumbs up, gave one for claim and two of three possible points for tension and drew the conclusion: "Bavarian Heimatfilm with meaning and understanding."

In Hörzu No. 18 from 1975, page 45, it could be read: “The author and the director succeeded in creating a solid folk piece with terrifying insights into the behavior of so many righteous people. The second story that was in the material, the tragedy of the child, was only visible in rare moments. "

Bild + Funk No. 18 from 1975, page 103, stated that the Bavarian folk piece "rightly found its way from the 3rd to the 1st program". Although “the basic idea is not new”, it still achieves - “especially through the dramatic ending - originality and strong expressiveness”. “The children's game” is “particularly impressive”. One can “look forward to”further work by the author Käthe Braun, whomade her debutwith the benefactor .

In the radio clock no. 18 from 1975, page 15, it was praised: “Very great class: 'The benefactor' by Käthe Braun. Their 'insidious' drama kept the audience in suspense for 85 minutes. Excellent: Gustl Bayrhammer and Caroline Ohrner. "

Also in the television magazine Gong No. 29 from 1982, page 62, was praised: "What the author Käthe Braun concocted in guilt and innocence, in confusion and tangles - that was quite an achievement."

continuation

In 1980 a sequel was created under the title The Ingrateful with a different cast.
