occupation

Little Tom Thumb is a US-British fantasy music film directed by George Pal from 1958 . The film is based on the fairy tale of the same name .

action

A farming family has wanted a child for a long time. When Jonathan goes into the forest to cut trees for the village, the forest fairy asks him not to do so. After some hesitation, he agrees and the fairy grants him three wishes. He would like to tell his wife Anne about this right away, but when he gets home he has already used up all the wishes. When she hears about the story, she is angry because she most wanted a child, even if it was only the size of a thumb. The fairy heard this and conjures up a “thumbs up”.

When he goes to the fair with Woody, he runs away and is approached by the robbers Ivan and Antony. They want him to quietly crawl through the keyhole and break into the royal treasury. He carries out the request and thereby puts his parents in prison.

Reviews

The Protestant film observer does not think much of the film: “Americanization of a Grimm fairy tale in an absurd taste. Not to be recommended for children, adults will not get much from the film. "Not exactly enthusiastic, but a little more benevolent judges the lexicon of the international film :" The fairy tale of Grimm as a play material for a cinema break according to American taste Hollywood apparatus, but in such a framework they are probably taken too much to extremes.
