The long ride of the yellow rose (original title: Drumul Oaselor ) is a Romanian adventure film from 1980 that was shot by Româniafilm against the historical background of the Romanian Revolution of 1848 .

Florin Piersic portrays the adventurer “Margelatu”, who in addition to the two sequels “The Yellow Rose Lives Dangerously” (1982) and “The Yellow Rose and the Secret of Bucharest” (1983) in three other films directed by Dori Nastase played.

action

The first part of the three-part adventure film begins in Bucharest in the spring of 1848. At a ball, the nobles collect money and jewelry, the proceeds of which are to be used to buy weapons for the planned revolution against the Habsburg rule . With the revolution, the Danube principalities of Wallachia and Moldova were to be merged into one Romania.

Ten members of the brotherhood under Captain Baroncea have gathered in a separate room. They are sure of the support of the boyars, the guilds and the peasants and want to strike right away, but Boroncea urges patience. A treasure collected and hidden by Boier Stroe Grădişteanu could multiply the proceeds of the previous collection. The adventurer Margelatu brings the news that payment for the weapons should be made to the agent "yellow rose" within ten days. A specific letter is agreed upon as identification, each of which has one half.

Barocea and Margelatu attempt to assassinate the prefect, but it fails. They seek protection with Pană Grădișteanu. In Agatha Slătineanu's carriage, Baroncea, Margelatu, Pană Grădișteanu, Sturzu and Moroiu manage to pass the roadblocks unhindered and leave the city, but they are soon followed by the prefect with gendarmes. In an inn they steal horses and leave the carriage behind. Then the group splits. Pană and Moroiu get the treasure from Stroe. But Pană wants to keep the treasure and kills Moroiu, but is caught by the others and has to ride as a prisoner.

They are locked in by gendarmes in a ravine; the gendarmes, however, are instructed not to shoot anyone in order not to hit the spy Agatha. This allows the group to move slowly at night. Only Margelatu, Pană and Agatha can escape during the battle at the gorge exit. Pană tries to kill Margelatu, but is then killed by Margelatu himself. But Agatha also tries to get the treasure for himself, but is stopped by Margelatu and drowns in the river. On the border with Transylvania , Margelatu hands over the treasure to the "yellow rose".

criticism

“Noticeably concerned with tension and adventurous entertainment, the film appears wooden and constructed. It is only interesting as an Eastern European attempt at popular entertainment cinema. "
