action
Although Alice Winter was elected as traffic director in Montreux, she leaves her job because her husband has cheated on her several times. She fled to Madruns, where she often spent her holidays with her parents as a child. Alice meets old friends there, including the mayor and building contractor Ernst Hug, who, together with his son, wants to realize an oversized building project in the town. Thanks to her references, she is elected traffic director of Madruns, and Ernst Hug immediately tries to win her over for himself and his project by blackmailing her with an old misconduct. He has no qualms about anything else and uses his power and knowledge to put the people in the village under pressure to do what he wants. Nobody dares to face him. He is also responsible for the dispute between the Caduff and Hug families. Alice meets resistance from all sides and has to work hard to gain acceptance in the area. Several times she is about to leave Madruns again because of this, but the others see her as the only person who could manage to put old Hug in his place. So she lets herself be changed and, with her support, takes on the unequal struggle until all dark secrets come to light and the balance of power is straightened out.
