action

Weidemann-Parfüm has been in the red since the daughter of the aged owner Karl Friedrich Weidemann, Mercedes, took over the business. Mercedes has a knack for numbers, but no nose for perfume, and so the last perfume collection became a slow seller. Now the company is facing bankruptcy. The Salzburger Stadtbank, which Weidemann helped out with loans for a long time, is in turn run by Bernhard Reichenberg. He took over the banking business from his mother Katja, who in turn has moved into the hotel business and will be opening her first hotel shortly. The Reichenbergs have been friends of the Weidemanns for many years, but Bernhard no longer wants to turn a blind eye. He gives Karl Friedrich a payment delay of three weeks, which the professional can extend to six weeks. If Weidemann cannot pay, the company has to be sold.

The young chemist Marie Gruber applies for a job as a perfumer at Mercedes and Karl Friedrich Weidemann. She met Bernhard briefly in town when he almost ran over her in his car. However, she thinks he is Katja Reichenberg's chauffeur, who happened to be in the car. Both get closer and eventually become a couple, even if Bernhard tries in vain to clear up the misunderstanding. Karl Friedrich is also fascinated by Marie, who has an amazing feeling for scent nuances and with her good nose reminds him of his own best time as a perfumer. He hires her against the will of his daughter Mercedes so that she can create the perfect fragrance for the company in the short period of three weeks. Not only Mercedes is reluctant to see Karl Friedrich's affection for Marie. The long-time perfumer Stefan Schneider would also like to eliminate the young competition, especially since Marie is proving to be more talented than him. Meanwhile, Marie is experimenting with different fabrics to create the perfect fragrance L'âme de la Rose . Stefan manipulates her samples and values several times, but Marie does not allow herself to be deterred and continues to work diligently until all she needs is one additive to the perfect fragrance.

Karl Friedrich realizes that Marie is overworked and sends her on vacation for a weekend. Marie drives Bernhard to her parents and both of them take Bernhard into their hearts. Shortly after the two of them leave, Karl Friedrich's accountant and secretary Otto appears at the Gruber family and asks about a certain Anna. Anna was Karl Friedrich's former lover and bears a surprising resemblance to the young Marie. Marie's mother Helga Gruber states that she doesn't know any Anna. Otto finally learns from a woman in the cemetery that Anna died in 1983 - a year after Marie was born. From Marie herself Otto learns that Anna was Helga's sister. Otto now knows that Anna was Marie's mother and that her father is none other than Karl Friedrich himself.

Karl Friedrich invites Marie to go with him to the opening of Katja's first hotel. On the day of the opening, however, he is so bad that Otto goes to the party with Marie in his place. Here she sees Bernhard and learns that he is Katja's rich son and head of the Salzburg city bank. She slaps him and leaves the party disappointed. At night she throws herself into work and finally finds the last missing component for her fragrance. She takes a sample and goes home. Bernhard followed her to her place of work and now sees Stefan tinkering with Marie's computer and her rehearsals at night. He films the scene with his camera. That night Stefan determined the components of Marie's perfume and notifies Mercedes that he had created the perfect perfume. When Marie comes to Weidemann the next day with the same message, Mercedes scoffs at her. Karl Friedrich collapses over the argument between the two women. He is taken to the hospital with a heart attack. Marie gives up and goes back to her parents. Otto, however, was able to convince the Gruber family to tell Marie the truth about her origins. Marie therefore goes back to Salzburg with Otto and visits her father Karl Friedrich in the hospital. Bernhard has meanwhile shown Mercedes the video that shows Stefan stealing the perfume, and she dismisses Stefan. Marie is rehabilitated, reconciles with her new sister Mercedes and forgives Bernhard. The perfume presentation was a great success and the company was saved - also because the recovered Karl Friedrich and his long-time friend Katja have finally confessed their love to each other.

criticism

"In view of the numerous entanglements, a remarkably unsurprising (television) romance off the shelf," said the film service .

The TV Spielfilm gave the worst rating (thumbs down) and called the film "a stale love story about the 'existential fears' of a stuffed upper class, that's escapism that stinks to heaven ."
