occupation

The Black Forest Clinic - The Next Generation was the first of two specials that premiered on February 20, 2005 for the 20th anniversary of the successful series from the 80s The Black Forest Clinic .

action

Dr. Benjamin Brinkmann wants to marry the doctor Sophie Schwarz. On this occasion, friends, family and colleagues of the couple gather in the Black Forest. Since Benjamin - like his father and half-brother Udo in the past - works as a doctor in the Black Forest Clinic, most of his father's former colleagues meet. With some effort, housekeeper Carsta even manages to track down the former resolute head nurse Hildegard and bring her to the wedding.

A medical emergency overshadows the wedding preparations, but in the end Benjamin and Sophie marry as planned.

Locations

As in the 1980s, the locations were the Glottertal with the Carlsbau built in 1914 ( map ), the Hüsli local history museum in Grafenhausen , the town of Rothaus , the island of Mainau , Konstanz , the vesperstube Unterkrummenhof, Aha and the Schluchsee .

reception

Audience ratings

The first broadcast of the series special reached around 15 million viewers and was therefore exceptionally successful for a television film.

Reviews

Like the series twenty years earlier, the film special received mixed reviews. It was u. a. spoken of the "touch of yesterday".

Clara Ott wrote in 2005 for Zeit.de: “The new episode only shone in the post-processed sunset scenes and only illuminating actors like Evelyn Hamann or Eva-Maria Bauer brought light into the darkness of the Black Forest. Instead of a nice story, every actor preferred to have a car tailored to their character. (...) It seemed as if the motto was 'The main thing is to be there, no matter what and how I have to play.' "

continuation

Motivated by the ratings success of the special, another special entitled Die Schwarzwaldklinik - Neue Zeiten was broadcast in the same year , but with only around seven million viewers, it was unable to match the ratings success of its predecessor.
