The new fairy tales of Scheherezade (original title: Russian Новые сказки Шахерезады , Novyje skaski Schacheresady ) is a Soviet - Syrian fairy tale film by Tachir Sabirow from 1987 based on the themes of the fairy tales from the Arabian Nights . action
That night Scheherezade tells the caliph the story of the shoe repairman Maruf. He had a vicious wife named Fatima, who betrayed him with Abu Tobacco. Together they forged a plan against the cobbler to get rid of him.
One day Maruf is supposed to appear before the kadi . Abu Tabak accuses him of having beaten his wife, whereupon he receives 50 lashes with the stick and is chased away. On his escape, he discovers a cave in which he encounters a huge genie . He flies with the shoemaker to a distant country, to an apparently deserted city, where goods are lying around everywhere. When Maruf sees a group of guards walking through the streets with a litter, the local merchant Ali grabs him and advises him to hide, because this is the day when the princess, who is not allowed to see, travels unveiled through the city. The princess, sitting in the litter, discovers the two, however, and their heads are then to be cut off. Maruf protests that he is a stranger, that he does not know the local customs and that the dealer just wanted to help him. Princess Esmagül realizes this and once again grants mercy to the unworthy.
Out of gratitude for his life, Ali pays back to the newcomer. He gives him 1000 dinars to dress himself up in to pretend at the bazaar that he is a rich merchant. Ali would testify to his wealth, which would make Maruf come to a shop and soon be wealthy. Maruf plays along and distributes a lot of money to the beggars in order to convince the merchants that he has endless wealth. When the dinars are used up, he borrows large amounts of money from the merchants who are happy to lend them, which he also distributes to the poor. He promises to repay his debts as soon as his caravan has arrived. Time goes by, but Maruf does not keep his promise, whereupon the merchants complain to the caliph. Summoned, Maruf asserts that his caravan will arrive soon and requests the caliph's daughter, Princess Esmagül. At a loss as to how to talk his way out of this, Maruf decides to flee. He visits the princess, tells her the truth about himself and confesses his love to her. Esmagül then helps him to escape with a ship.
However, the ship gets caught in a terrible storm and sinks. Maruf arrives at a small island on which he discovers the "Dead City". There he meets a poor old man, the former ruler of the city, who advises Maruf to go to the valley of the colored mountains. To do this, he must follow the path towards sunset until he meets a traveler up to Kamel. This will show him the further way. So the shoemaker is on his way. He meets the traveler who describes the way to a farmer with two oxen in front of the plow. When he arrives at the plowing farmer, he invites the stranger to a meal and hurries quickly into the village to get something to fill. Meanwhile, Maruf decides to continue the work of the farmer. While plowing, he comes across a secret passage in the ground, which he enters and thereby finds a richly filled treasury. The treasure is guarded by a huge snake, but its good days are already over. She leaves the shoemaker a magic ring, which he rubs, whereupon the Djinn reappears. Maruf wants a huge caravan from him, which is loaded with all the treasures of the cave and returns to the city of the caliph.
