Diedrich Gerhard Roggemann (born January 28, 1840 in Bad Zwischenahn ; † February 7, 1900 in Oldenburg ) was Lord Mayor of Oldenburg from 1890 to 1900 .

Life

Roggemann was the son of the Zwischenahn secondary school teacher Hermann Georg Roggemann (July 30, 1809 - February 14, 1876) and his wife Helene Margarethe Henriette nee. Deharde (September 17, 1803 - June 17, 1886). He attended grammar school in Jever and studied law in Göttingen from 1859 , where he was a member of the Hannovera fraternity that same year . Until 1862 he continued to study at the universities of Leipzig and Berlin . He graduated with a doctorate and became after the two legal state exam 1869 in Oldenburg as a lawyer admitted. In May 1879 he joined the judicial service of the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg as a senior judge , the following year he became a public prosecutor at the Oldenburg regional court and in 1883 a regional judge .

Political activity

Roggemann took part in political life at an early age. In 1874 he became a member of the Oldenburg City Council and three years later its chairman. From 1878 to 1881 he was a member of the National Liberal Party in the Reichstag and was part of the left wing of his party. After the split in the National Liberals , he resigned from the parliamentary group in April 1881 and joined the secessionists of the Liberal Association . From 1881 to 1900 he was a member of the Oldenburg state parliament and from 1881 to 1896 he was president of the state parliament. When he did not join the majority vote of no confidence in the government of State Minister Gerhard Friedrich Günther Jansen in 1896 , he was replaced by Karl Groß (1833-1905). On April 23, 1890, Roggemann was elected Lord Mayor of the city of Oldenburg and held this office until his death. During his ten-year term in office his influence remained limited, but at least he contributed to the improvement of the urban infrastructure in some essential areas. A municipal slaughterhouse was built, the port was expanded and a water pipe and sewer system were installed. On January 30, 1901, Roggemannstrasse in the Oldenburg Dobbenviertel was named after him in his honor.

Roggemann was born with Maria Agnes Bernadine. Pancratz (July 11, 1842 - March 24, 1923) married, the daughter of the Upper Government Council and member of Parliament Lambert Pancratz (March 4, 1800 - March 1, 1871).
