Ernst Ortgies Tantzen (born April 3, 1857 in Heering ad Weser , † December 1, 1926 in Oldenburg ) was a liberal politician in the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg and in the Free State of Oldenburg .

The Tantzen family was one of the dignitaries of the Oldenburger Land . His grandfather Hergen Tantzen (1789-1853) and his father Theodor Tantzen the Elder (1834-1893) were members of the state parliament , his brother Theodor Tantzen the Younger (1877-1947) was Prime Minister of Oldenburg from 1919 to 1923 and from 1945 to 1946.

Ernst Tantzen married Sophie Henriette born on April 18, 1890. von Münster (April 20, 1865 to November 21, 1943), the daughter of the househusband Ernst Georg Wilhelm von Münster and Margarete Sophie Adele nee. Martens.

Life

At first, Ernst Tantzen worked as a househusband and community leader in Stollhamm . At the time of the Empire he belonged to the Progressive People's Party . During the Weimar Republic he became a member of the German Democratic Party . From 1896 to 1925 he was a member of his party in the Oldenburg state parliament. Between 1905 and 1919 he was Vice President and from 1919 to 1920 he was President of the State Parliament.

In the first state parliament of the Free State of Oldenburg, he was chairman of the constitutional committee and had a great influence on the drafting of the new constitution of the Free State.

He belonged to the Higher Administrative Court of Oldenburg since it was founded in 1906. Until 1909 he was involved in the Oldenburg Chamber of Agriculture . The association of breeders of the Oldenburg horse named him an honorary member after many years of membership.
