Johann Daniel von Finckh (born August 26, 1807 in Dorum ; † July 1, 1867 in Badenweiler ) from the noble family of those von Finckh was President of the Upper Court and President of the State Parliament of the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg .

Life

Legal career

Finckh was the son of Christian Daniel von Finckh (1765–1813) and his wife Friederike geb. Sullow (1776-1815). After the early death of his parents, Duke Peter Friedrich Ludwig took care of the education of the sons of his chancellery, who had been sentenced to death and shot by the French during the French occupation of Oldenburg. Finckh attended high school in Oldenburg and studied law at the Universities of Göttingen and Heidelberg from 1826 to 1829 . He was a member of the Corps Bremensia Göttingen and Corps Guestphalia Heidelberg .

In 1830 he passed the mandatory entrance examination for the Oldenburg judicial service and, after a brief activity as an attorney in Ovelgönne , became a district court secretary in Oldenburg in December 1831 . In 1834 he passed the second state examination in law, became a regional court assessor in 1837 and an assistant judge at the Oldenburg Higher Appeal Court in 1847 . In 1851 he was appointed senior judge and in 1853 senior judge of appeal. After the judiciary was separated from the administration , Finckh was promoted to director of the newly created higher court in Varel in November 1858 and was transferred as director to the higher court in Oldenburg in November 1865 , which he headed until November 1, 1866.

Political career

Finckh was one of the few Oldenburg officials who got involved in the national and liberal movement at an early stage . His advocacy of Schleswig-Holstein's striving for national independence in October 1847 earned him a sharp reprimand from the Grand Duke, who reacted very ungraciously to the political activities of his officials. This reprimand probably meant that Finckh - like many other officials - initially maintained restraint after the outbreak of the revolution of 1848 and only took part in political life again after the Grand Duke gave in. From 1849 to 1852 and from 1856 to 1857 he was a member of the state parliament , which elected him President during the 1857 session. In parliament he belonged to the group of moderate liberals and played a mediating role between the government and the opposition majority in the state parliament in 1849/50 in the sharp conflicts over the foreign policy connection to Prussia .

family

Finckh was married to Johanna Sophie Maria born on November 6th, 1850. von Schietter (1824–1907), daughter of the Saxon officer and landowner Salomon Ferdinand von Schietter (1790–1831), who was ennobled in 1825, and Luise geb. Behr to Leisnig. Of his three sons, Eugen (1860–1930) later became Prime Minister of Oldenburg .
