from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dieter Cornels , artist name also DC Veero , (born July 7, 1938 in Berlin ; † June 15, 2016 in Ebersteinburg , Baden-Baden ) was a German painter and owner of the Cornels gallery in Baden-Baden.

Life

Dieter Cornels was born on July 7, 1938 in Berlin. From 1957 to 1959 he stayed in Switzerland, where he made his first landscapes and still lifes in oil. These were copies after Carl Spitzweg and the French Impressionists, as well as painted pictures and sketches. In 1960 he moved to Baden-Baden where he learned the mosaic craft in Karl Haumann's studio . At the same time the first abstract pictures were created.

In 1961 he returned to Berlin ( Kreuzberg ), where he met Rixdorfer Drucke , Kurt Mühlenhaupt , Manfred Beelke, etc., among others . In 1962 he moved to Paris for half a year, then to Vallauris and Cannes in southern France, where he worked in the studio of the Hungarian painter Ozere. Abstract spatula pictures were created. There he also met Pablo Picasso , Alberto Magnelli and Serge Poliakoff .

A year later, Cornels returned from Berlin to Baden-Baden to open a small shop gallery in the old town in Steinstrasse, which developed into a center of the art scene. Artists such as Ottmar Alt, Joseph Beuys , Robert Filliou , Alfonso Hüppi , Gerhard Richter , Sigmar Polke and Jörg Immendorff exhibited here.

In 1974 Cornels traveled to India and the USA. During this time he created his first large-format pictures with acrylic paints on canvas, which he signed with the Sanskrit word “Deva Veero” (German for “divine courage”). Cornel's style includes elements of comic Pop Art . Eike Gebhardt suspects "spiritual sources" in Wassily Kandinsky and the German Expressionists.

Dieter Cornels was the father of one son. He died on June 15, 2016 in Baden-Baden.
